[Sept. 10 President Abbott, in a communication to the board, state*! t h a t in his judgment the recent fatal accident in which Mr. L. H . Carter lost his life, made it desirable t h a t there should be a thorough examination of the electrict plant and asked that an appropriation of $50.00 be made for that purpose, and that he be authorized to appoint the inspector of the Edison Company, in Chicago, to- make the examination. Authority was given and an appropriation of $50.00 was made. S I T E FOR P H Y S I C S LABORATORY. The secretary also presented a communication from President Abbott with regard to the site of the physics laboratory, recommending t h a t no steps be taken to condemn the Bronson block and t h a t the Y. M. C. A. lot be chosen for the site. At this time the secretary was excused from further attendance at the meeting of the board in order t h a t he might look after registration affairs which were pressing. Mr. Lehman was appointed secretary, pro tern. President Abbott's recommendations were both adopted on motion of Mr. Lehman. ISTEW B U I L D I N G S . On motion of Dr. Davison it was voted t h a t no further steps be taken in the erection of the new buildings until after the adjourned meeting of the Legislature. On motion of Dr. Davison it was voted t h a t the Board of Trustees of the University shall request the Legislature to grant exemption from the operation of the law regarding the State Architect, and-his duties, and that the special committee appointed at a previous meeting of the board on legislation be instructed to urge this matter upon the Legislature. MATTERS PRESENTED BY PRESIDENT JAMES. FENCING HORTICULTURAL GROUNDS. 1. At a previous meeting of the Board the question of fencing the horticultural grounds was referred to the Committee on Buildings and Grounds with power to act. Through a misunderstanding Professor Blair, upon the authority of the .president of the University; gave directions to close a contract for the purchase of said fence for the sum of $4,569.65. The board at its meeting on July 20th appropriated for this purpose only $4,000.00. Dr. Davison moved that the matter be referred to the Agricultural Committee with power to act. On motion a consideration of the matter was postponed until the afternoon session. NUTRITION INVESTIGATIONS. 2. I present herewith for printing in the minutes a brief report from Professor H. S. Grindley in regard to the progress of the nutrition investigations: President Edmund J.
