Meeting of April 2 7 ,

1905.

T h e Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois met at the School of Pharmacy, Chicago, Illinois, Thursday, April 27, 1905, at 10:00 o'clock a. m., in pursuance to the following call issued by the Secretary April 20, 1905: Upon the call of the President, Mr. Bullard, there will be a special meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, at the School of Pharmacy, corner of Michigan boulevard and Twelfth street, Chicago, Illinois, at 10:00 o'clock a. m., Thursday, April 27, 1905, to authorize conferring diplomas upon those students of the School of Pharmacy who are to be graduated that day, and to transact such other business as may be brought before the Board/' T h e r e were present Messrs. Abbott, Bullard, Davison, and McLean and M r s . Alexander, M r s . Evans, and M r s . B u s e y ; absent, Governor Deneen and Messrs. Barber, Bayliss, and McKinley. M r . Kerrick came in a little later. President James was present. T h e President presented the following subjects for the attention of the Board. PRELIMINARY TRAINING FOR C. P. A. DIPLOMA. 1. Mr. D. M. McClelland applied for au examination for the certificate of Public Accountant. The University Committee on Accountancy decided that Mr. McClelland was not eligible because his preliminary education, in its opinion, was not equivalent to that offered by a four years' high school curriculum. His attorneys, George N. Morgan & Brother, desire to appear before the board on behalf of Mr. McClelland. After hearing Mr. McClelland's attorneys, the secretary was directed to refer the question as to whether the Board had power to waive the requirements for preliminary training stated in the law, to the Attorney General for his opinion.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ACCREDITED SCHOOLS.

2. G. T. Ragsdale, principal of the schools in DeKalb, inquires whether the University of Illinois is willing to grant free scholarships to students of high, standing in the accredited schools. Voted that the trustees do not feel justified in adding to the number of free scholarships now fixed by the Legislature. KEYS TO BUILDINGS AND ROOMS. 3. There seems to be a need for more careful supervision in the use of the various buildings of the University. Different persons have received keys to the various buildings which admit them at any time of day or night and
