3 6. That the President is authorized to appoint, in the place of Professor E. O. Sisson, an Assistant Professor in the School of Education, for one year, at a salary of $1,500.

Approved.

17. That the President be authorized to appoint a Professor of History in the University for one year.

Approved.

18. That the President be authorized to appoint the fellows and scholars for the academic year 1906-07 who may have been recommended by the Council for such appointment. Fellows—M. D. Hamilton, Chemistry; C. E. Carter, History; Ruth Wardall, Household Science; Katherine Layton, Modern Languages; W. W. Stiefier, Physics; Roscoe C. Main, Zoology. Scholars—W. H. Smith, Economics; Paul Howe, Applied Chemistry; Ben Tomlinson, French. Approved. 19. That the following recommendation of the Dean of the Law School be approved, namely: That the President of the University be authorized to tender an appointment as Professor of Law in the Law School of the University for one year from September 1, 1906, to Professor Allen E. Rogers, of the University of Maine. Voted to defer consideration until later. 20. That the following appointments be made for the twelve months beginning July 1, 1906, in the Engineering Experiment Station, at the salaries indicated:

Roy W. Rutt, Assistant to Director and Secretary to the Staff $1,500 00 C. H. Htird, Assistant in Laboratory of Applied Mechanics 400 00 H. B. Dirks, Assistant in Mechanical Technology 1,200 00 Elizabeth A. Swift, Clerk and Stenographer 900 00 D. A. Abrams, Assistant in Laboratory of Applied Mechanics 1,080 00 F. K. Ovitz, Assistant in Chemistry 1,000 00 O. S. McGovney, Assistant in charge of fuel test 1,600 00 Thomas H. Amrine, Assistant in Electrical Engineering, $70.00 per month, beginning Sept. 1, 1906 700 00 Roy D. Kunkle, Draughtsman 840 00

Approved. 21. That the summer term be continued during the year 1907 essentially along the same lines as for the present year. The amount of the appropriation will be proposed in the autumn after the report upon the present summer term is completed. I recommend further that in connection with this summer term the University establish a free scholarship. (a) For all persons who have taught during the year 1906-07 in the high schools of the State of Illinois. (&) For all other persons who have taught in the schools of Illinois during the year 1906-07, and who may be able to qualify for full admission to the University in either of the colleges, literature and art, science or engineering. Approved. 22. That the following appropriations be made for the departments indicated :
