T h e Board then took a recess until 2 :oo o'clock p. m.

W h e n the Board met after the recess, the same members were present as during the forenoon session. O n motion of Mr. Abbott, it was voted that when the Board adjourned for the day it adjourn until 9:00 o'clock Wednesday morning, and that the question of the Auditorium be referred to the Committee on Buildings and Grounds with instructions to report at that time.

S T R E E T R A I L W A Y CROSSING C A M P U S .

T h e following letter was received with regard to allowing the street railway to cross the University c a m p u s :

CHAMPAIGN, I I I . , March 2, 1906.

To the Trustees of the University of Illinois: GENTLEMEN: In connection with the building of the new auditorum verbal communications have been carried on about our building a line for street cars across the University grounds between Daniel street on the west and California avenue on the east, passing between the Chemical and Agricultural buildings, and north of the Woman's building. I submit herewith plat of the grounds at that point, showing the proposed line, and ask that the Board of Trustees authorize the President of the Board of Trustees to execute with us a contract giving permission to us to canstruct and operate this line for a period of twenty (20) years. The tract to be mainta-ined in the manner of the tract now on Green street. It is important that this should have prompt action, therefore I will ask that you give it such consideration.
