UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS. ASSISTANCE IN THE CHEMICAL LABORATORY.

8. That the sum of $2,000 be appropriated for additional assistance in the Chemical Laboratory, to be distributed upon the approval of the President as the needs of the Chemical Laboratory may make necessary.

Approved.

INVESTIGATION IN APPLIED CHEMISTRY. 9. That the sum of $200 be appropriated for certain investigations in the Department of Applied Chemistry, to be conducted by Professor Parr. Approved. NUTRITION INVESTIGATIONS. 10. That the sum of $2,000 be appropriated to continue the investigations in nutrition which have been carried on by Professor Grindley for some time past, and that the same be charged to the Agricultural Experiment Station Account, under the head of Animal Husbandry.

Approved.

GRADE OF WRIGHT STREET.

11. I submit a communication from the City Council of Champaign in regard to changing the grade of Wright street.

CHAMPAIGN, I I I . , July 19, 1905.

Edmund J. James, President University of Illinois, Uroana, Illinois. DEAR SIR—Relative to the matter of changing the grade on S. Wright street, the following are extracts from the minutes of the city council of the meeting held July 18, 1905: "Alderman Wallace moved that permission be granted the University of Illinois to change the grade of Wright street a distance of 150 feet north from the south end of the present pavement, as petitioned for by the University, provided the entire expense be borne by the University; and provided, further, that the University place the, proposed new fence along the north side of their property lying west of Wright street and south of what would be Davidson street if opened, at a distance of 33 feet south of the center line of said Davidson street, and allow the city to use the 33 feet so set off for street purpose." Vote: Ayes—Aid. Giese, McCann, Armstrong, Clinkenbeard, Heffernan, Eagleton, Matheny, Stewart, Nelson, Mollet, Howard, Morton, Wallace—13. Nays—0. "Alderman Wallace moved that, in the event of the acceptance by the University of the permission granted by the preceeding motion, with the provisions attached, that the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to enter into an agreement with the Trustees of the University that if any pavement or sidewalks be laid along the University frontage on said Davidson street where the ground of the University is used for street purposes, unless by petition of the University, the University shall not be asked or required to pay any part of the expense thereof." Vote: Ayes—Aid. Giese, McCann, Armstrong, Clinkenbeard, Heffernan, Eagleton, Matheny, Stewart, Nelson, Mollet, Howard, Morton, Wallace—13. Nays—0. Very respectfully, C. D. STEVENS, City Clerk. Voted to leave the grade of W r i g h t street as it is, and that the new fence be put on the north line of the University property from W r i g h t street to F o u r t h street.
