GENTLEMEN:—Your committee to which was referred a request from the department of chemistry asking for an appropriation of $500.00 for the purpose of investigating the cost and nutritive value of food respectfully recommends the adoption of the report and the appropriation thereby called for. COAL T E S T S .

Mr. Morrison, to whom was referred t h e " R e p o r t on T e s t s of I l l i nois Coals" recently s u b m i t t e d by t h e d e p a r t m e n t s of a p p l i e d c h e m i s t r y a n d mechanical e n g i n e e r i n g , offered t h e following resolution which was a d o p t e d : Besolved, That in consideration of the care and completeness with which this report is made, and on account of its undoubted value to the commercial and industrial interests of the State, this report be published by the University and sent out as a bulletin from the departments of applied chemistry and mechanical engineering and that funds be appropriated for this purpose as .may be necessary. Also that the report be returned to the departments interested for such revision and arrangement as may be deemed necessary for publication. Mr. Morrison offered t h e following resolution which was a d o p t e d : In consideration of the fact that the coal industry of the State of Illinois stands at the front of all its vast and extended resources, and further considering the close relation between the manufacturing, commercial, railway and municipal interests of the State and this important industry, I take great pleasure in submitting for your approval the following resolution: Besolved, That the departments of applied chemistry and mechanical engineering be instructed to continue the investigations and tests of Illinois coals along lines already begun and in such other lines as may be deemed of value to the commercial and economic interests of the State, and that we do hereby appropriate $for the continuance of the "Tests of Illinois Coals" by these departments.
