and its branches in the several counties of the State should, severally and collectively, lend their aid in securing the appropriation. Mr. A. E. Ebert, of Chicago, representing the Advisory Board of the School of Pharmacy, being present by invitation, made a statement with regard to the desirability of providing the School of Pharmacy with a building suitably equipped, at as early a date as possible. A resolution which had been handed to Mr. Raymond by the committee from the Illinois Farmers' Institute Association was, by him, presented. Resolved, That one-third of the monej received by the University of Illinois and appropriated by the acts of Congress for the more perfect endowment and support of the colleges for the benefit of agriculture and mechanic arts be, and is hereby set apart for technical instruction in agriculture, and that such division of said fund shall be made available, from and after this date, for the purpose named in this resolution. Mr. Bullard moved to refer the resolution to the Finance Com-, mittee. The motion was lost on the following vote: Yeas, Messrs. Armstrong, Bullard, and Smith; nays, Messrs. Freeman, Morrison, Raymond, McLean and McKay, and Mrs. Flower and Mrs. Carriel. Upon motion of Mr. Raymond, the resolution was then referred to the Committee on Instruction, Communications from members of the Faculty concerning a summer school were presented by President Draper and referred to the Committee on Instruction. Communications from the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds with reference to improvements on University grounds were presented by President Draper and referred to the Committee on Buildings and Grounds. Plans and specifications for a chemical laboratory, prepared by Professor Palmer, were presented by President Draper and referred to the Committee on Legislative Askings. It was ordered that judgment and costs and attorney's fees in the, Bruner matter should be paid, and an appropriation of $450.00, or so much thereof as might be needed, was made therefor. Mr. Raymond, to whom the matter had been referred (see page 121), reported that the cost of drainage in the forestry plantation would be about $175.00. An appropriation of this amount was made to be expended under the direction of the Committee on Agriculture.

MINNESOTA LANDS.

Mr. Raymond presented the following report from the special committee on Minnesota lands:

lo the Honorable President and Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, GENTLEMEN:—Your committee which was instructed to visit the Minnesota lands, begs leave to make the following report: The lands held by the University of Illinois, located in Minnesota, 12,897.96 acres in all, must be considered as two distinct groups having different soils, subsoils, and different possibilities for drainage. —3U.
