M E E T I N G O F N O V E M B E R 12, 1898.

T h e following call for a special m e e t i n g of t h e B o a r d of T r u s t e e s of t h e U n i v e r s i t y of Illinois was issued N o v e m b e r 6, 1898: "Upon the call of the President, Mr. F . M. McKay, there will be a special meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois at 8 o'clock a. in., Saturday, November 12, 1898, in the Trustees' Room, Library Hall, Urbana, Illinois, to select a location for the burial of Dr. Gregory and to consider such other business as may come before the Board." T h e r e were p r e s e n t at t h e m e e t i n g Messrs. A r m s t r o n g , Bullard, M c K a y , M c L e a n , Morrison, R a y m o n d , a n d S m i t h , a n d M r s . Flower, also P r e s i d e n t D r a p e r ; absent, Governor T a n n e r a n d Messrs. F r e e m a n a n d P e a r c e a n d M r s . Carriel. O n motion of M r . B u l l a r d i t was voted t h a t t h e B o a r d g o i n t o C o m m i t t e e of t h e W h o l e a n d t h a t Professors Burrill, S h a t t u c k , a n d E i c k e r be invited to sit with t h e committee. W h e n t h e C o m m i t t e e of t h e W h o l e rose, P r e s i d e n t M c K a y r e ported t h a t t h e c o m m i t t e e h a d considered carefully t h e question of a place for t h e b u r i a l of D r . Gregory, a n d had, after consultation with t h e U n i v e r s i t y professors invited to sit with t h e committee, a n d after viewing several spots suggested for t h e b u r i a l place, a d o p t e d t h e following resolution: Resolved, That the Committee of the Whole recommends that the body of the late Dr. John Milton Gregory be laid to a permanent r§st in the University grounds south of the Library Building, near a point 100 feet south of the drive in a line with John street, and midway between Wright street and the west line of University Hall. T h e report of t h e C o m m i t t e e of t h e W h o l e was adopted. O n m o t i o n of M r . S m i t h it was voted t o a p p o i n t a c o m m i t t e e of t h r e e to p r e p a r e resolutions in m e m o r y of D r . Gregory, t h e comm i t t e e to advise with P r e s i d e n t D r a p e r . P r e s i d e n t M c K a y a p p o i n t e d Messrs. K a y m o n d , Bullard, a n d M c L e a n u p o n t h i s committee. T h e resolutions were as follows:

RESOLUTIONS IN MEMORY OF J O H N MILTON GREGORY. (First Regent of the University of Illinois—1867-1880.)

WHEREAS, Dr. John M. Gregory, the first Regent or President of the University, died in the city of Washington, D. C , on the 19th of October last, and WHEREAS, The deceased had expressed a wish that his remains might have burial within the grounds of the University, and such suggestion has already had the approval of the members of the Board individually, therefore
