T h e s e r e c o m m e n d a t i o n s , N o s . 1 to 30, inclusive, were adopted. I have made no recommendation concerning instructors in military, in chemistry, in theoretical and applied mechanics, and upon the violin, because it has not been possible to determine upon suitable persons. It is more than likely that it will be necessary to appoint additional instructors in three or four departments, particularly in the College of Literature and Arts, by the time of the opening of the fall semester. I recommend that you authorize me to make engagements as developing conditions may prove necessary, at the initial salary of instructors, viz.: $70.00 to $80.00 per month.
