P i l l s b u r y f o r $49.07 for expenses i n c u r r e d a t t e n d i n g as witnesses in a suit a g a i n s t J o h n H a y e s , a b o n d s m a n of 0 . W . S p a l d i n g , at K e d Oak, Ia. s were allowed a n d ordered paid. O n m o t i o n of Mr. M c L e a n t h e following resolution was a d o p t e d : Besolved, That the several amounts paid for witnesses' expenses in the Spalding case be charged up and collected from the State Commissioners in charge of the Spalding funds. I t was voted t h a t Mr. W . A. H a w l e y be allowed a military scholars h i p for services in t h e b a t t a l i o n d u r i n g t h e year 1897-98 u p to t h e t i m e of his leaving t h e U n i v e r s i t y for t h e S p a n i s h w a r — a m o u n t , $18.75. T h e additional s u m s of $47.50 for b a n d s c h o l a r s h i p s a n d $200 for c o m m e n c e m a n t exercises were also voted. T h e C o m m i t t e e on A g r i c u l t u r e r e p o r t e d with regard to t h e leasing of s o u t h farm as follows, a n d t h e report was a d o p t e d :

LEASING OF SOUTH FARM.

CHICAGO, June 27,1899. lo the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN:—Your Committee on Agriculture recommends a renewal of the lease of the south farm to the present tenant for three years after the expiration of the present lease. That it be stipulated in the lease that a reduction of $1.00 per acre on the rental shall be allowed for land kept in clover, but that otherwise the lease be made upon the same terras as at present, except that the privilege of retaining from forty to eighty acres in the northeast corner of the farm be reserved, that said land may be available for use of the College of Agriculture, if needed. The Business Manager is requested to prepare a lease in accordance herewith. Respectfully submitted,
