feasibility of making the standard of admission to the schools of medicine and law in Chicago and vicinity equivalent to the requirements for admission to the junior or third year of the regular department in the colleges of liberal arts and sciences. Mrs. Flower offered t h e following resolution, which was adopted on h e r m o t i o n : WHEREAS, The earnings of the College of Physicians and Surgeons have largely increased, owing to its affiliation with the University, and WHEREAS, In justice, a certain portion of such earnings should accrue to the benefit of the University, therefore, Resolved, That the Committee on School of Medicine be instructed to confer with the stockholders of said College of Physicians and Surgeons to determine definitely the sum for which said stockholders will dispose of their stock to the University, and that if a satisfactory sum can be agreed upon such a portion of the surplus earnings as may be agreed upon be set aside each year as the absolute property of the University, to be used as a sinking fund, with which ultimately the University may purchase said stock and become the owner of the property and the School. O n m o t i o n of M r . N i g h t i n g a l e , t h e P r e s i d e n t of t h e U n i v e r s i t y was i n s t r u c t e d to s a y to D r . Q u i n e t h a t t h e B o a r d of T r u s t e e s joins u n a n i m o u s l y with t h e faculty of t h e College of P h y s i c i a n s a n d Surgeons i n r e q u e s t i n g h i m t o w i t h d r a w h i s r e s i g n a t i o n of t h e d e a n s h i p of t h e said College. T h e following report was received from t h e C o m m i t t e e o n I n s t r u c tion:

lo the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN:—Your Committee on Instruction recommends— 1. That there be established in the University a college for teachers. 2. That Arnold Tompkins be elected dean of said college at a salary of $2,500 per annum. Eespectfully submitted,

lo the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN:—Your Finance Committee reports as follows in relation to the bond of Elbridge G. Keith, Treasurer-elect: The Committee has submitted the bond herewith to Mr. John P . Wilson, attorney, who endorses it both as to form and sufficiency. The bond is in the penal sum of $750,000 and is signed by the principal and by W. J . Watson, Sidney A. Kent, Arthur Dixon, and W. A. Fuller, as sureties.
