M E E T I N G OF S E P T E M B E R 30, 1896.

The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois met in special session at the office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, in Springfield, Illinois; at 9 o'clock a. m., Tuesday, September 30,1896 r pursuant to the following call issued by the Secretary September 24, 1896: "Upon the call of the President, Mr. James E. Armstrong, there will be a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois at the ! office of the Superintendent of. Public Instruction, in Springfield, Illinois, at 9 o'clock a. m., Wednesday, September 30, 1896, for the purpose of visiting the State Fair and to transact such business as may be duly presented." The members present were Messrs. Armstrong, Bullard, Inglis r Morgan, Morrison, Raymond and Mrs. Flower; those absent were Governor Altgeld, and Messrs. Graham, Judy, McLean, and Dr. Smith. Mr. Morgan stated that he had investigated the claims made with regard to the plow which was given to the University at the time of the World's Fair, and that in doing this he visited John Deere & Co., at Moline, and other interested parties in Henry county. H e stated his conclusion to be that the plow should be returned to the Old Settlers' Society of Henry county. On motion of Mr. Morrison it was voted:. First, that the report of Mr. Morgan in regard to the Glen plow be approved and all the papers in respect to the plow be placed on file; second, that upon formal application from the Executive Committee of the Old Settlers' Society of Henry county the plow be surrendered and shipped to the address the Committee may designate. Mr. ^Bullard read a communication from President Draper with regard to the location on the campus of certain water mains. On motion of Mrs. Flower, the Committee on Buildings and Grounds was instructed to visit the University and report with regard to the matter at the meeting of the Board to be held in Chicago next Tuesday.
