The secretary handed in the bids which he had received for t h e erection of Engineering Hall. These were opened and were found to be as follows:

There being no quorum present, the board adjourned to meet at 3 o'clock p. m.

AFTERNOON SESSION.

When t h e board met pursuant to adjournment, Messrs. McLean, Morgan and Morrison were present, in addition to those who were present at t h e meeting at noon. Leave was given t h e committee on instruction to add to its report of September 13 (page 69) t h e following: "H. E. Reeves, assistant in military science, for ten months, $100; Cleaves Bennett, assistant librarian for t h e year beginning September 1, 1893, $1,000." On motion of Mr. Raab, i t was voted to take up t h e bids for t h e erection of Engineering Hall. When these had all been read, they were, on motion of Mr. McLean, referred to t h e committee on buildings and grounds, with t h e instruction to report at its earliest convenience. The committee on buildings and grounds made t h e following r e p o r t :

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN : Your committee on buildings and grounds, after full consideration of t h e bids referred to it, decides t h a t Schultz & Co., of Danville, Illinois, is t h e most desirable responsible bidder for t h e Engineering Hall, and recommends t h a t a contract be made with said firm in accordance with t h e plans and specifications. S. A. BITLLARD, ) Buildings ond Grounds. The report of t h e committee was adopted, on motion of Mr. McLean. Mr. McLean offered t h e following resolution, which was adopted: Besolved, T h a t t h e committee on buildings and grounds and t h e president of this board are hereby authorized to enter into, and sign, t h e necessary contracts with Messrs. Schultz & Co., of panville. Illinois, t o whom has been awarded, this day, t h e contract of building t h e Engineering Hall, and to approve t h e necessary bonds to be executed by said Schultz & Co.; said committee also to have full control of t h e erection of said building in providing for t h e superintendence of t h e same, and to report its action to this board at its next regular meeting,
