make to the United States a quit-claim deed for the same; and that your committee on Minnesota lands be empowered to take all further steps necessary to secure a patent for the S. W. ± of 24, 124, 36, Minnesota. Respectfully submitted,

On motion of Mr. R a a b , the report was approved, and t h e President and Secretary were authorized t o relinquish the p a t e n t and quit-claim the S. E. % 24, 124, 86, Pope county, Mine., t o t h e United States, and the committee was instructed t o t a k e measures t o secure a p a t e n t for S. W. % of said section 24. The Regent and the President were appointed a committee with whom the members of the Christian Associations of t h e University might confer in regard t o the building they propose t o erect. On motion of Mr. Graham $500.00 was appropriated from t h e U. S. fund t o meet the deficit in appropriations made for t h e electric l a b o r a t o r y . The m a t t e r of lighting the University buildings by electricity was referred t o the Committee on Buildings and Grounds, t o be reported on a t the next meeting of the Board. Permission was given the P h i l o m a t h e a n Society t o p u t in a wire for lighting their hall by electricity, t o be used on t h e night of March 18th only, t h e wire t o be p u t in under the direction of Professor S t r a t t o n . On motion of Mr. McLean, $150.00 was appropriated from current funds for p u t t i n g in a good vitrified brick floor in t h e store room of the Chemical L a b o r a t o r y . On motion of Mr* Funk, $50.00 was appropriated from current funds for shelving in the same room. On motion of Mr. Graham, $350.00 was appropriated from the U. S. fund for three desks, each for eight students, in t h e chemical l a b o r a t o r y . On motion of Mr. McKay, there was appropriated from s t a t e a p p r o p r i a t i o n for mechanical and architectural shops—

On motion of Mr. McLean, it was ordered t h a t this sum be spent under t h e supervision of the President, t h e Regent, and Professor T a l b o t . The m a t t e r of a d r a u g h t i n g room for the mechanical engineering department was referred t o the Committee on Buildings and Grounds, t o be reported a t the next meeting.
