To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN: The undersigned, to whom was referred t h e building of cement walks on t h e University grounds, report t h a t they have had built by t h e Springfield Cement Walk Go. 387 1-9 square yards of walk a t $1.60 per yard, costing $619.37, also 164i running feet of cement curb at t h e drive ways at 20c per foot, costing $32.90, making a total of $652.27. This is an excess of $52.27 above the appropriation for t h e purpose, but your committee thought it for the best interest of the University to have the work proposed completed at once. The report of t h e committee was approved a n d a n appropriation of f 100 was made from current funds t o p a y t h e balance on t h e walk a n d t h e expense of t h e changes made in t h e g r a d e and t h e lines of walks.

R E P O R T O F EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE.

The Executive Committee made t h e following report of its action since t h e last meeting of t h e B o a r d :

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN : Your Executive Committee begs leave to report t h a t it held a meeting, at which all t h e members were present, in the University Parlor, Monday, September 21, 1891, at 5 o'clock p. m., and at t h a t time transacted t h e following business: The Regent proposed t h a t the testing laboratory be put in charge of the Dean of t h e College of Engineering, Professor Bicker, and it was so ordered on motion of Mr. Funk. The Regent was given authority to employ an instructor for one of t h e preparatory algebra classes. The Faculty proposed and the Committee approved changing paragraph 1 of the report on military affairs, adopted at t h e September meeting, to read as follows: "Every male student shall study military tactics, and shall recite upon the same once a week until he passes two creditable term examinations ; and every male student not excused by t h e Faculty on account of physical disability, or other sufficient cause, shall have military drill twice a week until he obtains six creditable term records. Those selected as officers shall continue recitations during their term of service." An appropriation of $500 from the state appropriation for buildings and grounds, and of $100 from current funds was made on motion of Mr. Cobb for t h e construction of a walk of artificial stone from Green street, in front of the University, to t h e University front entrance, along in front of the entrance, and thence northeast to meet the walk from the east gate on t h e Green street line; also from t h e east door of t h e University Hall by t h e well to the west door of t h e Chemical Laboratory, t h e work to be done at once, under the direction of the Business Agent and Secretarv.
