The report was adopted, and the Secretary was instructed t o i n f o r m t h e p e t i t i o n e r s of t h e a c t i o n of t h e B o a r d . F r o m t h e special c o m m i t t e e o n resolutions, Mr. B e n n e t t rep o r t e d t h e following, w h i c h o n m o t i o n w a s a d o p t e d : W H E R E A S , Professor Joseph C. Pickard has signified his purpose to decline re-appointment to the chair of English Language and Literature; therefore, be it Resolved, That at the sundering of the ties which for so many years have bound Professor Pickard to this University, this Board desires to place on record its full appreciation of the services he has always conscientiously rendered, of his high personal endowments as a man and a scholar, and of the affection and interest which he has inspired in those who have been under his instruction; together with the cordial desire t h a t during the years which may yet be allotted to him, he may enjoy such opportunities of labor and usefulness as shall be fitted for the exercise of his erudition, culture and ability. A l s o , M r . B u l l a r d r e p o r t e d t h e following, which w a s a d o p t e d : Resolved, T h a t while the Trustees accede to the request of Mr. Edwin A. Kimball to be relieved from the duties of Instructor in Iron-work and Foreman of the Machine Shop, they wish to acknowledge the long and efficient service which Mr. Kimball has given, and the industry and mechanical skill which he has exhibited. They cordially recommend him as a workman well qualified to oversee those engaged in mechanical vocations. T h e E x e c u t i v e C o m m i t t e e r e p o r t e d t h a t i t h a d received a n d a p p r o v e d t h e t r e a s u r e r ' s b o n d , which is for $ 3 0 0 , 0 0 0 . The Board then adjourned.
