UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS.

Trustee Bennett offered the following resolution, which passed:

Resolved, That the President and Secretary of this Board be, and are hereby authorized to execute a lease of the Griggs farm to H. H. Darby at $640 per annum, as proposed and recommended by the Farm committee, for the period of four years, from March 1,1887, with the privilege of either party to terminate same upon giving the, other party six months notice thereof prior to the first day of March in any year.

Adjourned to meet at 8 P. M.

EVENING {SESSION.

The Board assembled at the time appointed. Present as before. The Committee on Legislative Appropriations made the following report:

To the Trustees of the University oj Illinois, GENTLEMEN : Your committee, charged with the duty of considering the needs of the University and the aid to be asked for it of the General Assembly at its next session, has attended to this duty and respectfully reports as follows: An estimate is presented of the cost of carrying on the usual work of the University for the two years following the first of July, 1887, and of the resources within the control of the University for meeting those expenses.

Your committer believes that all the items enumerated above are essential to the proper life and growth of the University. The two new professorships provided for are: First—A professor of mechanical engineering, who will be imperatively demanded when the present naval officer is withdrawn at the end of the current college year; and ' Second—A professor of pedagogy, as asked by a resolution of the Illinois State Teachers' Association, at their last meeting.
