A finely b r e d Rose of S h a r o n S h o r t - h o r n bull calf h a s j u s t b e e n p u r c h a s e d at t h e sale of Pickrell, T h o m a s and Smith, for $270. H e is r e g a r d e d as a p r o m i s i n g a n i m a l . A t w o - y e a r - o l d .Rose of S u a r o u S h o r t - h o r n heifer w a s p u r c h a s e d at t h e sale of Mr. G a r d n e r y e s t e r d a y . B e i n g r a t h e r thin in flesh it w a s o b t a i n e d for $135. T h e h e r d now cont a i n s r e p r e s e n t a t i v e s of t h e following families, s o m e of t h e m r a n k i n g h i g h : R o s e of S h a r o n , P e a r l e t t e . T h e s t e e r s b e i n g fed in t e s t i n g different b r e e d s , a r e d o i n g well—making a n a v e r a g e g a i n of n e a r l y 100 p o u n d s d u r i n g May. We a r e t e s t i n g a l a r g e n u m b e r of v a r i e t i e s of corn, s o r g h u m a n d a few of oats, g r a s s ' etc., a n d a r e t r y i n g e x p e r i m e n t s in m o d e s of p l a n t i n g , fertilizing, etc. I t is p u r p o s e d to u s e c o r n and s o r g h u m in t h e silo. T h e c a s h r e c e i p t s for t h e p a s t six m o n t h s h a v e b e e n $4,31)0; t h o s e of t h e c o r r e s p o n d i n g t i m e last y e a r w e r e $1,779. I t is not e x p e c t e d a like i n c r e a s e will a p p e a r for t h e last half of t h e y e a r , b u t .the i n d i c a t i o n s now are t h a t t h e y e a r ' s w o r k will give a satisfactory profit, with favorable w e a t h e r . The l e a d i n g i t e m s of s a l e s h a v e been c a t t l e , $831; h o g s . $897; b u t t e r a n d milk, $350; hay, $716; s e e d - c o r n , $769; feeding c o r n , $349; colt, $200; t i m o t h y seed, ,$178. T h e sale of c o r n for s e e d h a s b e c o m e an i m p o r t a n t b r a n c h of t h e farm sales, a n d one I •consider especially a p p r o p r i a t e . T h i s line of w o r k m a y b e , a s it s e e m s to me, a d v i s a b l y •extended. I h a v e t h o u g h t it b e t t e r to c o n t i n u e d i r e c t s u p e r v i s i o n of t h e work. S t u d e n t T. F . H u n t , w h o a s s i s t e d last y e a r , h a s b e e n of m u c h help a n d will give h i s e n t i r e time d u r i n g t h e s u m m e r v a c a t i o n . T h e w o r k m e n , as a class, h a v e d o n e well. We h a v e laid a b o u t one a n d a half miles of h e d g e , which h a s b e e n n e g l e c t e d for s o m e y e a r s , a n d which we could n o t c o m p l e t e l a s t y e a r . C o n s i d e r a b l e r e p a i r i n g of b o a r d f e n c e s a n d s o m e tile d r a i n a g e h a s b e e n done. Respectfully s u b m i t t e d , G. E. MORROW.

President Cobb reported verbally, as required by resolution of the Board, passed December 18, 1881, in regard to the course of Professors Weber and Scovell in obtaining patents. He said that he had received a oommunication from the Attorney-General to Governor Cullorn, which he communicated and placed on file, and that the Attorney-General had given no further opinion upon the subject under consideration. , The report was accepted. The following report from a special committee on the work of Departments, was made:
