I would recommend t h a t one or more large cisterns be built in t h e ground outside t h e building, for storing rain water, both for laboratory and boiler use, and connected by p i p ing with t h e p u m p , so t h a t t h e t a n k in m a n s a r d can be filled whenever it becomes e m p t y . Pipes will be p u t in to conduct t h e w a t e r from deck roof into it, so t h a t with ordinary a m o u n t of r a i n it will be k e p t full, This cistern or cisterns should contain, I think, about no less t h a n one thousand barrels. T a n k in m a n s a r d will contain 100 barrels. I equest also instructions, if you have any preference, ^as to t h e colors used for painting t h e inside finish of t h e building.
