I t w a s found, h o w e v e r , t h a t t h e sub-soiled a n d t r e n c h p l o w e d s t r i p s produced t h e most, a n d t h e shallow-plowed s t r i p s t h e l e a s t . T h e half of t h e field p l o w e d 7 i n c h e s d e e p and less, y i e l d e d 72 b u s h e l s 15 lbs., w h i l s t t h a t p l o w e d 9 i n c h e s d e e p a n d m o r e , y i e l d e d 88 b u s h e l s 35 p o u n d s .

EXPERIMENTS W I T H POTATOES.

T h e seventy-five v a r i e t i e s of p o t a t o e s r e c e i v e d from t h e M i c h i g a n A g r i c u l t u r a l College, a n d p l a n t e d l a s t year, w e r e r e p l a n t e d s i m p l y w i t h a v i e w to o b t a i n i n g a r e n e w a l of t h e seed, t h e yield h a v i n g b e e n v e r y small. T h e y w e r e p l a n t e d m o s t l y on s w a r d land, on t h e l o w e s t p a r t of p l o t N o . 2 s o u t h , a n d , g e n e r a l l y s p e a k i n g , y i e l d e d well, so t h a t n e x t y e a r w e can i n s t i t u t e a c o m p a r i s o n b e t w e e n v a r i e t i e s . T h e v a r i e t i e s of p o t a t o e s a n d corn w e r e e x h i b i t e d before t h e S t a t e H o r t i c u l t u r a l Society a t C e n t r a lia, a n d a t t h e m e e t i n g of t h e S t a t e B o a r d of A g r i c u l t u r e , a n d w e r e av^arded a m e d a l b y t h e l a t t e r body.
