Disturbances of electrolyte and water balance are not unusual in patients suffering from heart, kidney, or liver disease, or in patients who have undergone gastrointestinal surgery. Dr. John B. Fuller is seeking to find the best combinations of electrolyte determinations. He is shown at left pouring diluted blood serum into a flame photometer. Purchase of this equipment was made possible by a research grant of $1,000 from the Illini Achievement Fund.
