1. IH'mi War Memorial Scholarships T o enable worthy young men and women of unusual ability to attend the University and prepare for useful careers of leadership. T h e scholarship p r o g r a m is described further on page 5. 2. Research at U of I Medical Center, Chicago T o aid important research programs at the College of Medicine of the University of Illinois. Since 1949, Fund grants have helped to finance research in such fields as heart disease, hypertension, cancer, geriatrics, arthritis, mental disturbances, allergies, and gastrointestinal disease. A further review of this Achievement Fund project appears on pages 8 and 9. 3. Staff Research and Equipment T o finance promising research projects for which state funds are not available, and to provide necessary research equipment. All Achievement Fund grants for faculty research and equipment must be recommended by the University Research Board and approved by the U of I Foundation Board. 4. IHini Achievement Fund Endowment T o increase the Achievement Fund p e r m a n e n t endowment, which now stands at SI2,868. T h e e n d o w m e n t fund earnings are applied to various University objectives as directed by the Foundation Board. 5. Library Enrichment For rare and valuable books, and special collections, that will add to the distinction of the University Library, ex-

Scovill Scholarship Fund (in co-operation with an alumni committee of the College of Commerce and Business Administration) T o provide an endowment fur of at least $2* HX), the income from which will be used for u n d e r g r a d u a t e scholarships in the College of C o a l m e n ad Business Administration. This project is described further on page 10. 8. Memorial Chapel at U of I Hospitals, Chicago T o provide a suitable place of w o r s h i p within the Research

and Educational Hospitals of the University*

9. Harvey H. Jordan Scholarship Fund (in co-operation with a faculty committee of the College of Engineering) T o establish an e n d o w m e n t fund for scholarship awards to outstanding seniors in the College of Engineering. This project is outlined m o r e fully on page 15. 10. Chimes Restoration Fund T o repair and modernize the mechanism for operating the Altgeld Hall chimes, which were given to the University by the classes of 1 4 , '15, *16> '17, '18, '19, '20, and '21. 1 1 . U of I Symphony Orchestra Fund T o provide scholarships for music students of exceptional talent w h o are qualified to play in the U of I Symphony Orchestra, but w h o need financial aid in order to attend the University.
