Urn praduab < instruction is a concern to all, but in many respects invokes less complexit in program development and therefore received less attention than other matters in most college reports. Considerable attention was (riven by the Committee in its deliberations to the question of thematic or problem-oriented res irch and to the need and desirability of establishing overseas research/instructional platforms or bast T h r o u g h o u t the individual college reports, of which Part I I I is a summary, is an emphasis upon inter-college cooperation where it is possible and appropriate. A. INSTRUCTION New instructional programs center first on the development of graduate spc> ialization and second on general enrichment of existing undergraduate and graduate programs. Most instruction with an international orientation takes place in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with the support and encouragement f the area Studies centers. Perhaps the report to the Committee of the Center for Asian Studies rellects the general situation in terms of future plans when it states (p. 2) : ". . . present faculty teaching loads already at a maximum, coupled with departmental duties and research prevent my new instructional ventures." All area studies center reports reflect the limitations placed on new instructional programs by the lack of faculty. Not only is it necessary to cancel courses when faculty leave for field reuch, but many departments still lack staff with area interest and cx-
