THE

HONOR SYSTEM ILLINOIS

0. C. AUSTIN

AT

HE honor system at the University of Illinoi is a question that has been talked of more or less generally by the upper classes for the last two years. It involves a principle in which every loyal student should be deeply interested. The reader should remember that the views expressed in this article are the personal views of the writer and may not coincide with those of the former. A discussion of the subject from all sides, and especially from the principle involved, would be profitable. The honor system may be said to be applied on two different plans, the student control and the faculty control. In the first method, there is a committee made up of members of each class to which all cases of cribbing are reported, This committee investigates the different cases, and if the individual is proven guilty, the faculty is notified and the offender is expelled. Or lie may be told by members of this committee to leave. In the system of facultv

and the same course of procedure ensues.
