ANNOUNCEMENT. 87 In order to place in permanent form some of the most interesting and valuable papei read at its meetings, and also to extend the influence of the society, " The Civil Engineers Club of the University of Illinois" in May, 1887, published " N o . 1, Selected papers." In May, 1888, No. 2, of the same series, made its appearance. The results to members in carrying out this work have been a stimulation of independent thought, a development of t h e ability to hunt up one's own information and the cultivation of the power to express ideas clearly, concisely and forcibly. I n consideration of thee results and the general interest and favor with which Nos. 1 and 2 were received by undergraduates, alumni and others, the society feels wan-anted in issuing a similar publication this year. No. H, Selected papers will be ready for distribution about May, 1889, and will 1 in merit at least equal to last year's issue. Price, 30 cents, postpaid. Copies may be had by addressing J O H N B.
