Before going to Washington in 1902, she was librarian of the Univer$it y of West Virginia. Because of the character of her abilities and services, Miss Skinner was among the first to be exempted by executive order of the President from the provisions of the retirement act prescribing automatic separation from the Library personnel on attainment of retirement age. Miriam E. Carey, Armour, 1898-'99, is on the faculty of the Minnesota Library School. H e r home address is T h e Marlborough at 9th Street, St. Paul Minnesota. Agnes M. Cole, B.L.S. '01, has resigned as head of the Catalog department of the University of California, Berkeley. F r o m 1903-06 Miss Cole was head of the Catalog department of the University of Illinois Library. This year she is taking a real vacation visiting family and friends in the East. Next year she plans to resume work in her old department but only for part time. Her home | address is 2414 Telegraph ave., Berkeley. Clara E. Howard, B.L.S. '01, died on December 7th, 1935, at Emory Uni- I versity, Georgia. She had not been well for some time, but her death was a great shock to her family and friends. Miss H o w a r d had been Dean of the j T Library School at Emory L niversity since 1930. Miss Howard's name is also closely associated with the development of High School libraries through her notable work as librarian of the Schenley High School at Pittsburgh from 1916 to 1927. Previous to this she had been a member of the staff of the Carnegie Library, Pittsburgh. In 1928 she took her Master's Degree at the School of Library Service, Columbia University. For two years she was director of the Library School at the New Jersey College for Women going from there to Emory. She was very active in her professional interests and was a member of many organizations. She was editor of the School Libraries Yearbook for 1931. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Adeline M. Baker, B.L.S. '02, acting head cataloger, University of Nebraska Library. j Ellen Garfield Smith, B.L.S. '02, librarian of Walla Walla, Wash., had her 25th anniversary as librarian celebrated on February 22 by her staff and former members of her staff. The occasion was the annual staff luncheon and the celebration was a spontaneous expression of the high esteem and affection with which Miss Smith has always been held by those who have worked with her. Owing to Miss Smith's popularity in the community and the difficulty of limiting the attendance if all her friends were invited, it was decided to make it a starr party. Fanny Elliott Miller (Mrs. D . P Taylor), 1902-'03, cfitd sonic time ago in California according to word received by the Kappa Alpha Theta Chanter at Illinois. '03, has resigned her position as librarian of th Pasadena Public Library to take effect January 1, 1936, and will retire from Irc active library work.
