(c) Gradumtiou Rtquinmtnt. A minimum average of I 3.0 is required for graduation from all curricula (or stuckms entering the University after October 1, 1947. (d) Rules for Computing Averages. All letter grades received by the student at the end of the semester are used in computing the averages for the probation rules. (A—f B - 4 . 0 ; C—3.0; D—2.0; E—1.0) The average for graduation is computed for those courses which are actually counted as fulfilling the requirements for graduation. When a student repeats a course, only the final grade received is used in computing the average for probation and graduation. Courses in which the student receives credit as a result of special or proficiency examinations are not considered in computing averages either for probation or graduation. Certain colleges, schools, and curricula have established higher scholastic standards, liach college office, on request, will infonn the student regarding the scholarship regulations

of t h a t college. 3 9 . Delinquencies in English ( a ) A satisfactory proficiency in the use of written English is a r e q u i r e m e n t for all undergraduate degrees awarded by the U r b a n a divisions of the University. (b) Students who fail on the qualifying examination are required to pass an extra one-semester course in rln oric, specifically R h e t o r i c 200; Rhetoric 200 shall he offered over} lemester a n d s u m m e r session, and the individual colleges and schools shall decide at w h a t point in his University career the student who fails the qualifying examination shall take the OOUrse.
