(Students must submit petitio category (k) In order that athletes may comply with the general U n i v e r s i t y r e q u i r e m e n t as to military training, and also m a y be eligible to p u r s u e the advanced c o u r s e in the R e s e r v e Officers' T r a i n i n g Corps, re ceiving the financial benefits and preparation for leadership a c c r u i n g t h e r e t o , , t h e following will govern: M e m b e r s of v a r s i t y t e a m s shall be excused from basic military t r a i n i n g periods w h e n absences are due to actual conflict with practice sessions, out-of-town trips, or home games of t h e teams to which they belong; a n d will not be r e q u i r e d to make up such absences. Such absences shall be reported to the Commandant by the S e c r e t a r y of the Committee on S t u d e n t Affairs in accordance with University rules pertaining to group absences. All varsity athletes taking basic military training will normally register for sections which do not interfere with regular practice hours for the sport concerned, and which do not meet on days normally used for athletic competitions with other universities. Special cases in which a conflict is unavoidable will be decided by the Dean of S t u d e n t s after considering the recommendations of the heads of the departments concerned. 14. S t u d e n t s Excusable by Petition For reasons other than those mentioned in paragraph 13, students to be excused from military or to have t:heir m.l.tary work deferred, must first r e n t e r for military and then submit a petition through the Headquarters of the Departments of Military Science Dr Air or ^ ^ Force Science to the Dean of Students f o r ^^^^j action.
