Smith, head of the department of home economics of the University of Illinois College of Agriculture, is a native- of Illinois and a graduate of the University* •^ After receiving' a bachelor s degree in foods and nutrition and a doctorate in biochemistry, she served as an associate professor of one of its kind in any land-grant college and one of the few in the United States. This house serves as a home for the' students who volunteer as research subjects. Dr. Smith was named head of the home economics department in 1949. Since that time, she has served on the experiment station committee on organization and policy of the American Association of Land-Grant Colleges and Universities. She has also been chairman of the home economics research administrators of the nort h central region. . . . From DR.
