Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Washington College of Medicine (in Seattle), as Professor and H e a d of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in the College of Medicine, on indefinite tenure, beginning September 1, 1956, at an annual salary of $9,500 on "AY50" basis. This appointment is to fill the vacancy created by the death of Dr. Fremont Chandler in December, 1954. In the meantime, Dr. Claude N. Lambert has been serving as Acting H e a d of the Department. T h e nomination has been made after a careful study by a search committee appointed by the Dean of the College of Medicine of candidates for the headship. SAMUEL R. ALDRICH, Professor of Agronomy, in the Extension Service in Agriculture and H o m e Economics, on three-fourths time, beginning March I, 1956, at an annual salary of $6,800 (GY75). 2. K. C. DUNHAM, George A. Miller Visiting Professor of Geology, for five months from September 1, 1956, at a salary of $7,000 ( G ) . 3. DONALD B. GILLIES, Research Assistant Professor of Applied Mathematics in the Digital Computer Laboratory, beginning April 1, 1956, at an annual salary of $7,000 ( D Y ) . 4. EDWARD E. GORDON, Clinical Associate Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, beginning April I, 1956, without salary ( A Y ) . 5. JAMES HERBERT MCCLURE, Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, beginning April 1, 1956, at an annual salary of $11,500 ( D Y ) . 6. EUGENE F. APPOINTMENTS TO T H E 1 9 5 6 SUMMER SESSION STAFF (4) I submit recommendations for appointments to the faculty for the 1956 Summer Session. Appointments in the Summer Session budget provide for an eight-week term at Urbana-Champaign, June 18 through August 11, and ,at the Chicago Undergraduate Division, June 22 through August 18; and two six-week terms, June 25 through August 4 and August 6 through September 14, in the College of Pharmacy. The salaries of members of the University faculty recommended for appointments to the Summer Session staff are computed on the basis of the authorized formula of two-ninths of the salary of the academic year for two months of summer service. The budget totals $560,448 for Urbana-Champaign, $105,000 for the Chicago Undergraduate Division, and $7,569 for the Chicago Professional Colleges. Funds for the Urbana-Champaign and the Chicago Undergraduate Division Summer Sessions will be included in the 1956-1957 internal budget. Funds for the summer program in the College of Pharmacy will be provided from unused salary balances in the College of Pharmacy.
