992 BOARD OF TRUSTEES [June 22 brought. Whether the court would allow a death benefit or would deny it is entirely problematical. Decisions in Illinois and in other states vary, but cases are found in which compensation has been allowed in situations closely analogous to the Boaz case. The Accident Committee discussed this case with the Board Committee on Civil Service and Employees. T h e latter committee felt that an effort should be made to reach a settlement which would eliminate the possibility of a law suit. It also felt that the circumstances in the case justified an allowance to the widow. T h e Accident Committee conferred with the representative of Mrs. Boaz who has indicated that Mrs. Boaz will accept the sum of $2,750 as representing full settlement in the case and release the University and the State of any further liability. The University Committee on Accident Compensation for Employees recommends that this settlement be approved and that a special appropriation of $2,750 be made for the purpose. I concur and recommend approval. O n m o t i o n of M r . D a v i s , t h i s s e t t l e m e n t w a s a u t h o r i z e d a s r e c o m mended.
