Residence When a nomination is made by a member of the General Assembly the statement of the nominator with reference to the residence of the nominee will be accepted by the University, unless the official records of the University indicate an address for the nominee outside the district of the member of the General Assembly who makes the nomination. W h e r e the residence of the nominee is thus in doubt, it is the duty of the University, before permitting the scholarship to become effective, to require satisfactory proof from the nominee that he resides within the district from which he seeks the scholarship. F o r the purposes of these regulations the residence of the parents, or of one parent if the other be deceased, or of the guardian of the person if both parents are deceased, will be deemed the residence of all students who have not attained their legal majority. Parental agreement that a son or a daughter reside with a named person as a guardian will not be accepted as conclusive by the University in the absence of satisfactory evidence of residence in fact with such alleged guardian. A student who gives a false address or who offers false or wilfully misleading information relative to his residence, for the purpose of obtaining a scholarship is liable to dismissal from the University, or other disciplinary action, and forfeits the scholarship thus obtained. 5. Removal from State of Holders of Scholarships These scholarships are awarded only to students whose legal residence is in the State of Illinois. If the legal residence of the holder of a scholarship is changed from Illinois to some other State, his scholarship is thereby forfeited. 6. Extension of Scholarships T h e Act provides that a scholarship may be extended if an application for leave of absence is made to the President of the University before the holder leaves the University. It does not provide for an extension on application after the holder has left or is seeking to return to the University. Applications for extension should be made in advance to the President of the University in writing. T h e term of any scholarship will be extended under the provision of Section 175 of the Statute, only if the holder has been in attendance at the University for at least the first year after he was awarded the scholarship, and if his average grade during the period of his attendance has been at least C, exclusive of grades in military science and physical education. A scholarship can not be extended by University action for any other cause than that specified in the Act, namely, absence from the University for the purpose of earning money to enable the student to continue his course. T h e act itself automatically extends the scholarships held by persons in the military or naval forces for the period of such service, unless the scholarship be sooner terminated by death. SALE AND REMOVAL OF HOUSE ON PROPERTY AT 1 2 1 0 WEST ILLINOIS STREET, URBANA (9) About a year ago the University purchased the property at 1210 West Illinois Street, Urbana, and operated it as a tenant property until October i, 1943T h e Comptroller has made efforts to rent it since that time but has been unsuccessful. H e reports that it is difficult to operate a property as old as this one without putting almost all of the income from rent into repairs and maintenance. Furthermore, it is difficult to bring a property of this kind up to the standard the University insists on from rooming house operators without extensive repairs and remodeling. T h e Comptroller and the Director of the Physical Plant Department recommend that the Board authorize the sale and removal of this house from the lot. I concur. On motion of Mr. Karraker, the officers of the University were authorized to advertise this house for sale and to sell to the highest responsible bidder.
