CHICAGO BOARD OF TRADE SCHOLARSHIP (18) An offer from the Chicago Board of T r a d e of $400 annually, until terminated either by the Board or the University upon written notice in January or February preceding any academic year, to establish a four-year scholarship in the College of Agriculture for the payment of fees and other expenses of highschool graduates enrolled in Boys 4-H Grain Crops Club W o r k to be selected by the College of Agriculture. DAIRY AND ICE CREAM MACHINERY AND SUPPLIES ASSOCIATION RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP (19) An offer from the Dairy and Ice Cream Machinery and Supplies Association of New York of $750 for a Special Research Assistantship in Dairy H u s bandry for the year 1932-33. O n m o t i o n of M r . A r m s t r o n g , this gift w a s accepted. REPORT OF GIFTS (20) The following report of gifts received by the University since the last report: T h e American Otological Society, $3,500 for the continuation of research work in the field of animal hearing during the year beginning September I, 1932. The Society made an original grant of $3,000 for this purpose last year (Minutes, July, 1931, page 388). The Society of American Florists and Ornamental Horticulturists, the sum of $1,000 for research work by the Department of Horticulture. Mrs. H u g h Mackay Fletcher of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, her late husband's library of books on economics and related subjects. T h e r e are 238 volumes in this collection and many of them are rare and have considerable value. T h e National Research Council to Dr. J. T. Buchholz of the Department of Botany, a grant of $500 for the period of July 1, 1932, to June 30, 1933, in support of certain research work on plants. T h e National Research Council, $120 for the employment of a draughtsman to assist Professor C. H . Crickmay of the Department of Geology in the mapping of the work he is doing on the geologic structure and stratigraphy of Mt. Jura. Mr. C. E. Harsook of Maquon, Illinois, a patented individual hog house to the Department of Animal Husbandry. Chicago Bridge and Iron W o r k s for investigation of cylindrical shells as columns, $46.31; investigation of joints in wide plates, $43.69. (These funds supplement grants previously accepted for these investigations.) University Alumni Association, $50, representing the proceeds from a bridge tournament conducted by the Association, as an addition to the Alumni University Fund Board's Student Emergency-Loan Fund, accepted by the Board April
