596 BOARD OF TRUSTEES [June 15 GIFTS TO THE UNIVERSITY (28) The following report of gifts received by the University since the last report: The National Research Council, through the Committee on Grants-in-Aid: (a) To Professor Victor E. Shelford for traveling expenses to Canada for research work during the summer, $130. (b) To Professor Francis P. Shepard (on sabbatical leave and studying on the Pacific Coast) for small boats in connection with his study of submarine canyons off the California Coast, $200. A collection of objects of art from the Public Works of Art Project in Chicago, including 9 oils, 3 water-colors, 1 charcoal, I brass repousse, and 5 woodblock prints. These will remain the property of the federal government but will be permanently lent to the University. An addition of $277.50 to the Student Emergency Loan Fund from the Class of 1932. An addition of $111.04 to the Chicago Illinae Club Loan Fund from that organization. This report was received for record. At this point, Mrs. Freeman withdrew. CHARTS OF STEAM, WATER, AND SERVICE MAINS (29) A report showing the charts of steam and water lines, electrical lines, and other service mains on the campus. This report was received for record. STOP LIGHTS ON GREEN STREET (30) A recommendation that two stop lights be installed on Green Street, one at Wright Street and one at Mathews Avenue, to be in operation during the intermissions between classes, and that an appropriation of $1700, or so much thereof as may be necessary, be made for this purpose. On motion of Mr. Armstrong, this appropriation was made, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Armstrong, Mr. Barrett, Mrs. Hopkins, Mr. Karraker, Dr. Meyer, Mr. Trees, Mr. Williams; no, none; absent, Mr. Barr, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Freeman, Mr. Horner. ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION BUDGET Mr. Trees, for the Finance Committee, presented a recommendation that the budget of the Athletic Association be approved as a tentative budget, salaries and other items of expenditure to be subject to review after the income of the Association from the football season is known. On motion of Mr. Trees, this recommendation was adopted. WATER SUPPLY AND FIRE PROTECTION Mr. Barrett recommended that $1000 be appropriated for the purchase of meters and valves for the new water main, to be paid from the emergency contingent appropriation on release from Governor Horner, and $1700, or so much thereof as may be necessary, for the service of engineers, on a 3 per cent basis, to write the specifications and to render other services in connection with the improvement of the water system, to be paid from the Reserve and Contingent Fund. On motion of Mr. Barrett, this appropriation was made by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Armstrong, Mr. Barrett, Mrs. Hopkins, Mr. Karraker, Dr. Meyer, Mr. Trees, Mr. Williams; no, none; absent, Mr. Barr, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Freeman, Mr. Horner.
