EXTENSION OF LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PROFESSOR M. J . WASSERMAN (5) A request from Assistant Professor M. J. Wasserman, of the Department of Economics, who was given leave of absence without pay for six months from February 1, 1934, so t h a t he might render service to the Agricultural Administration in Washington, for an extension of his leave, without pay, for one year from September 1, 1934. The Dean of the College and Head of the Department recommend approval. I concur.

On motion of Mr. Barr, this extension was granted.

ADMISSION TO THE COLLEGE OF MEDICINE (6) The proposed changes in the requirements for admission to the College of Medicine.

On motion of Mr. Trees, this matter was referred to the Committee on Chicago Departments for further consideration and report. At this point, Mr. Barr withdrew.

CHANGES IN SCHOLARSHIPS (7) Certain data and recommendations have been submitted by a faculty committee on scholarships to the Board Committee on Scholarships. The changes recommended would involve amendment of the laws in certain respects, and it is therefore desirable that some decision be reached by the Board soon. If these recommendations are adopted the matter should be brought to the attention of the Governor with a view to having the laws amended accordingly.

The special committee on tuition fees and scholarships was requested to report on this matter at the July meeting of the Board.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PROFESSOR R. C. ASHBY

(8) A report that Associate Professor R. C. Ashby, of the Department of Agricultural Economics, has been given a month's leave of absence with pay, in addition to his vacation allowance of one month, on account of his health.

This report was received for record.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR E. A. NORTON (9) A recommendation that E. A. Norton, Assistant Chief in Soil Survey, be given an indeterminate leave of absence, but not to exceed one year, beginning June 10, 1934, without pay, in order that he may accept a temporary appointment as Project Director of Southern Illinois for the Land Policy Section of the Submarginal Land Committee of the Federal Surplus Relief Corporation.

On motion of Mr. Trees, this leave was granted.

DEATH BENEFIT DR. CARL A. HEDBLOM

(10) A report of the death on June 6, 1934, of Dr. Carl A. Hedblom, Professor and Head of the Department of Surgery. The death benefit payable in this case, in accordance with the statutes of the University and with the terms of his contract, is $2,808. The Comptroller has been authorized to make this payment to Doctor Hedblom's designated beneficiary. T h i s r e p o r t w a s r e c e i v e d for r e c o r d .

APPOINTMENT OF DR. ERIC OLDBERG AS ACTING HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY

(11) A report that because of the sudden death of Dr. Carl A. Hedblom, Professor and Head of the Department of Surgery, Dr. Eric Oldberg, Assistant Professor in that Department, has been appointed Acting Head until further notice.

On motion of Dr. Meyer, this action was approved.
