j 934] UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS 483 Student Funds," adopted May 23, 1928 (Minutes, page 623), be amended to read as follows: "All notes shall bear interest at five per cent from date until maturity and seven per cent after maturity, unleBS otherwise provided in the deed of gift of any Fund; provided that the Comptroller is authorized, with the advice and approval of the Finance Committee, to grant extensions on student loans in cases where, for good cause, the party is unable to make payment at maturity and that such extensions bear five per cent interest until they fall due; provided further that if payment is not made within the period of the extension the interest rate shall become seven per cent at the conclusion of that period." On motion of Mr. Barrett, this recommendation was adopted. MEDICAL A N D DENTAL LABORATORIES BUILDING ROOF (26) At the meeting of the Board on September 26, 1933 (Minutes, page 381), a report was made by the Committee on Buildings and Grounds on the condition of the roof on the new Medical and Dental Laboratories Building and on the furniture in the medical library. On its recommendation the Board directed the Acting President and the University Counsel to take up the matter of replacement with the contractors. The Acting Director of Buildings and Grounds Operations reports that the relaying of the tile roofing has been completed in accordance with the instructions of the Board. A report was made to the Board on January 26, 1934 (Minutes, page 437), of the satisfactory correction of the defects in the furniture. This report was received for record. DATE OF MAY MEETING On motion of Mr. Barrett, the date of the May meeting of the Board was set as Tuesday, May 22, 1934, at the Medical Building, in Chicago. APPOINTMENTS MADE BY THE PRESIDENT The Secretary presented also for record a list of appointments made by the Acting President of the University. Deere, Lora Lucile, Assistant to the Dean of Women, for six months beginning March 1,1934, at a cash compensation at the rate of sixty-seven dollars ($67) a month (this is in addition to her appointment as Assistant in Political Science, on one-fourth time). (March 19, 1934)1 DeLong, Charles Clifton, Senior Accountant in the Accounting Division of the Business Office, beginning April 10, 1934, and continuing until August 31, 1934, subject to the rules of the Civil Service Commission, at a cash compensation at the rate of one hundred fifty dollars ($150) a month. (April 11, 1934) Fischer, Jack Warren, Assistant in Internal Medicine, in the College of Medicine, for five months beginning April I, 1934, without salary. (April 6, 1934) Kearby, K. K., Special Research Assistant in Chemistry, on one-half time, for four months beginning March 1, 1934, at a cash compensation at the rate of sixty dollars ($60) a month. (March 23, 1934) Kominik, Emanuel Aloysius, Assistant in Pathology and Bacteriology, in the College of Medicine, for five months beginning April 1,1934, without salary. (March 2 ° . 1934) McGovran, Edward Rawson, Research Assistant in Entomology, in the Administration Department of the Agricultural Experiment Station, and in the State Natural History Survey Division, beginning April I, 1934, and continuing until further notice, at a cash compensation at the rate of two hundred twenty-five dollars ($225) a month.
