GIFTS TO THE UNIVERSITY

(19) T h e following report of gifts received by the University since the last report: Chicago Bridge and Iron Works, Hollup Corporation, and the Illinois Steel Company, jointly, approximately $500 in cash and test specimens having a value of approximately $1,000, for a preliminary study of welded joints for steel frames in large buildings, the fund to be known as the "Trust Fund for the Investigation of Welded Joints." The investigation is being planned in cooperation with the members of the Research Committee of the American Welding Society. Utilities Research Commission, Inc., $1,000 received on November 23, 1933, and $500 received on June 15, 1933, a total of $1,500, to be used for the investigation of stack gases; these payments are contributions in excess of the stipulations of the original agreement. Mr. Robert Allerton of Monticello, $800 for the continuation of the American Traveling Scholarships in Architecture during the current year. American Society for Testing Materials, $250 for the continuation of the investigation of cast iron pipe. Woman's Athletic Association, $200 for the Woman's Athletic Association Loan Fund. (Original gift accepted by the Board of Trustees on September 28, 1932, Minutes, page 104). T h e American Society of Civil Engineers, $44.30 to supplement funds for the investigation of reinforced concrete arches. The Cold Metal Process Company, of Youngstown, Ohio, x-ray equipment and other apparatus for research work in the Department of Chemistry: One complete multiple diffraction unit with pinholes, slits, with Kelly-Koett transformer, control stand, and stabilizer $2 500 12 flat cassettes 180 One motor driven wedge cassette 250 One high temperature camera 300 Miscellaneous parts for x-ray tubes, film holders, pinholes, machine work, etc 600 Rockwell hardness tester complete 750 Typewriter 100 Typewriter desk and chair 80 Two quadrant cassettes for G. E. Apparatus 360 One Ott-Selmayr x-ray tube and stand 500 One Wyckoff-Lagedin x-ray tube 75 One high temperature arc furnace 400 Total $6 095 (Some of these items have been reported to the Board previously, but the above is a complete list of the equipment donated by this Company from time to time.)
