O n motion of M r . Trees, these appointments were made a n d authority w a s g r a n t e d a s r e c o m m e n d e d . LEAVE O F ABSENCE FOR DR. ROSALIE PARR (15) A recommendation from the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Head of the Department of Chemistry that Miss Rosalie Parr, Associate in Chemistry, be given leave of absence for one year beginning September 1, 1933, on half pay. I recommend approval.

On motion of Mr. Armstrong, this leave was granted.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PROFESSOR W . A. OLDFATHER

(16) A recommendation that Professor W. A. Oldfather of the Department of Classics be granted leave of absence for the second half of 1933-34 (six months from March 1, 1934), without pay, to enable him to accept an appointment to the Sather Lectureship at the University of California. O n motion of M r . Trees, this leave w a s granted. RETIREMENT OF PROFESSOR DONALD M. GALLIE (17) A request from Dr. Donald M. Gallie, Professor of Clinical Operative Dentistry and Head of the Department of Operative Dentistry, that he be retired under the rules of the Board of Trustees on_ September 1, 1933. H e is 67 years old and has been in the service of the University for 30 years. The rules of the Board permit retirement at any time after a member of the staff reaches the age of 65 years (providing he has been in the service of the University at least fifteen years) in exceptional cases and for substantial cause. Professor Gallie wishes to retire because of his health. His retiring allowance will be $600 a year and the Department has agreed to provide for his work without replacing him next year, after which he would automatically retire under the rules. I recommend approval. O n motion of M r . Barr, this recommendation w a s adopted. CONTINUATION OF J . D. SMITH IN SERVICE (18) A request from Mr. J. D . Smith, laborer in the Agronomy Department, who has reached the retiring age, that he be continued in service for one year from September 1, 1933. The Head of the Department and the Dean of the College recommend approval and I eoncur in their recommendation. O n motion o f M r . Williams, this recommendation w a s adopted.
