Your committee has used its best judgment in this matter. We submit our acts and doings as herein recited to you for your consideration. Our recommendation is that the committee be continued, and that it be directed to act in accordance with the spirit of the resolution adopted by the committee on August

24, 1932.

APPLICATION FOR PATENTS

Mr. Williams, for the Committee on Patents, presented a recommendation that Dr. H. F. Johnstone be authorized to apply for patents, to be assigned to the University, on the following discoveries: 1. A process of air dilution as applied to washing sulphur dioxide from stack gases. 2. A process for removing and recovering sulphur dioxide from waste gases. On motion of Mr. Williams, this recommendation was adopted. DATE OF DECEMBER MEETING The Board voted to hold the December meeting at 10 o'clock a.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 1932, at the Blackstone Hotel, in Chicago.

APPOINTMENTS MADE BY T H E PRESIDENT

The Secretary presented for record a list of appointments made by the President of the University. Asher, Harry "H., Assistant in Metallurgy, in the College of Dentistry, for eleven months beginning October 1, 1932, without salary. (October 26, 1932)1 Bunting, Mary Luella, Graduate Stenographer in the Office of the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, for ten months beginning November 1, 1932, subject to the rules of the Civil Service Commission, at a cash compensation at the rate of one hundred dollars ($100) a month. (November 14, DeMotte, John Alan, Resident in the Department of Otolaryngology, in the College of Medicine, for six months beginning January I, 1933, at a cash compensation at the rate of fifty dollars ($50) a month. (November 3, 1932) Garland, John C, Assistant in Surgery, in the College of Medicine, beginning November 15, 1932, and continuing until September 1, 1933, without salary. (November 8, 1932) Goodrick, Helen, Stenographer in the Department of Agricultural Economics, in the Agricultural Experiment Station, beginning November 15, 1932, and continuing until August 31, 1933, at a cash compensation at the rate of one hundred dollars ($100) a month. (October 28, 1932) Gott, Frank Bever, Technician in the Department of Pathology and Bacteriology, in the College of Medicine, for ten months beginning November I, 1932, at a cash compensation at the rate of one hundred dollars ($100) a month.
