INVESTIGATION OF SWEET CORN A N D OTHER VEGETABLE CROPS (8) A report of the execution of an agreement with the Illinois Canning Company of Hoopeston, Illinois, for a cooperative investigation in the development of sweet corn and other vegetable crops to be carried out by the Agricultural Experiment Station. This agreement is for a period of one year beginning October 1, 1932, with provision for its extension, and the company has agreed to pay $3,000 per year to cover the expenses of the work.

INVESTIGATION OF ABSORPTION OF SOUND BY MATERIALS (9) A request for the approval of an agreement with the United States Gypsum Company for a cooperative investigation of absorption of sound by materials. This agreement is for one year, beginning October 1, 1032, with provision for its extension, and the company agrees to pay t h e University the sum of $1,000 for the expenses of the investigation. O n motion of M r s . H o p k i n s , this agreement w a s approved. ASSIGNMENT O F PATENT FOR PROCESS OF CELLULOSE DIGESTION (10) A report from the Secretary of the Board that he has received and deposited in the file of the Board documents United States Letters Patent No. 1880773 (United States Serial No. 386080), issued to the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois covering t h e process of "cellulose digestion" invented by Messrs. Buswell and Boruff. This is a process for the manufacture of gas through the fermentation of cornstalks and other crop residues as a by-product of a process for the treatment of sewage for disposal. This process, originally assigned to t h e University, was released by t h e Board to Messrs. Buswell and Boruff in July, 1930 (Minutes, page 49), but later they reported that they did not wish to press their claim for the patent and would leave it in the hands of the Board.
