chairs and equipment for use in the following state institutions under the jurisdiction of the Department: Chicago State Hospital, Lincoln State School and Colony, Dixon State Hospital, East Moline State Hospital, and Anna State Hospital. T h e expense of transportation, installation, and return of this equipment will be borne by the Department of Public Welfare. T h e College of Dentistry will appoint dental internes to work in these institutions who will use such equipment.

On motion of Dr. Noble, this authority was granted, on condition that the equipment will be returned to the University whenever required.

^ REPORT ON GOURDIER FARM HOUSE (22) A report from the Comptroller that the house on the Gourdier F a r m (200 acres in Champaign County south of Dewey), which was destroyed by fire, has been rebuilt at a cost of approximately $2500 from the insurance money received. T h e University holds a $10,000 mortgage on this property. At the meeting on April 20, 1932 (Minutes, page 568), authorization was given for the use of the insurance money to rebuild the house.

APPROVAL OF VARIOUS PURCHASES (23) A report of the approval of the following purchases, amounting to $1,000 or over, since the last report was made to the Board: Pyrex laboratory glassware, amounting to $2250, from Schaar and Company, Chicago. This is a non-competitive item, and the order was placed with this company because they give a maximum discount on established prices and because of the service they have rendered on previous orders. Funds have been provided in the Budget for 1932-1933 for this purpose. Printing of soil maps of Vermilion, St. Clair, Wabash, and Pulaski counties —5,000 copies of each—from A. Hoen and Company, Baltimore, Maryland, the low bidder, at a price of $3100, f.o.b. Urbana. This concern has printed most of the other soil survey maps. Funds have been appropriated in the budget for this purpose. A carload of chemically pure and commercial acids for the General Chemical Storeroom from Grasselli Chemical Company of Chicago, the low bidder, at a cost of $1,255.41, f.o.b. Urbana. ( T h e transportation on the shipment and on the return of empty containers is approximately $130.)

PATENT ON SUPPRESSED WAVE RADIO CARRIER SYSTEMS (24) On March 8, 1927 (Minutes, page 225), the Board of Trustees accepted an assignment from Mr. H u g h A. Brown, Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering, of a patent on a non-continuous carrier wave radio telephone transmission. T h e Secretary of the Board reports that he has received the original United States Letters Patent No. 1872398, dated August 16, 1932, issued on application of Professor Brown entitled "Suppressed W a v e Radio Carrier Systems."

GIFTS TO THE UNIVERSITY (25) T h e following reports of gifts received by the University since the last report: 1. Mr. Roy M. Eilers, of St. Louis, a Cadillac motor for use in the University's Power Laboratory. (This is worth approximately $50.) 2. The Chicago Bridge and I r o n Works, the following gifts under two contracts which that company has had with the University through its Engineering Experiment Station: a.
