CONTRACT FOR TEMPERATURE REGULATORS (33) The Supervising Architect submits the following bids received on thermostatic valves for automatic temperature regulation in the Research Laboratory and Library: Davis Construction Company $2 666 00 A. Kilander Company 2 977 00 S. J. Reynolds Company 3 450 00 William A. Pope Company 3 724 00 H e recommends that the contract be awarded to the Davis Construction Company, the low bidder, on the basis of their bid of ?2,666.oo. I concur in this recommendation. On motion of Dr. Noble, this contract was awarded to the lowest bidder, the Davis Construction C o m p a n y . PURCHASE OF BOILER FOR POWER PLANT (34) A recommendation that the Board authorize the purchase and installation of a boiler and stoker for the heating plant for the Chicago Departments at a cost of approximately $20,000 to be paid out of the appropriation for the second unit of the new Medical Laboratories Building, for which an appropriation was made by the Fifty-Seventh General Assembly, on condition that the Department of Public Welfare builds the proposed addition to the Boiler House which is necessary to furnish adequate heat for the new buildings. O n motion of D r . Noble, this purchase w a s authorized a n d an appropriation of $20,000, or so m u c h thereof as m a y be necessary, w a s m a d e out of the appropriation for the second unit of the Medical and Dental Laboratories Building b y the following vote: A y e , M r . Armstrong, M r . Barr, M r . Blake, M r s . Grigsby, D r . Noble, M r . Trees; no, none; absent, M r . Barrett, M r . E m m e r s o n , M r s . Evans, M r s . Hopkins, M r . Williams. BIDS FOR RESIDENCE HALL (35) A request from the Supervising Architect for authority to advertise for bids for the proposed new Woman's Residence Hall. O n motion of M r . Armstrong, this authority w a s granted. NURSING SCHOOL IN CONNECTION WITH COLLEGE OF MEDICINE (36) A communication from the Dean of the College of Medicine concerning the establishment of a University School for Nurses in connection with the College of Medicine and the Research and Educational Hospital. N o action w a s taken on this matter. CHICAGO BOARD OF EDUCATION SCRIP A recommendation from the Finance Committee that the Comptroller be authorized to accept scrip issued b y the Board of Education of Chicago in payment, or part-payment, of tuition a n d laboratory fees in all departments of the University o n condition that in each case a promissory note, endorsed b y s o m e responsible person a n d bearing interest at six per cent, be required with the scrip as collateral, and that in no case shall such scrip be accepted unless it has been issued to the student or to a m e m b e r of his family. O n motion of M r . Blair, this recommendation w a s adopted. MARTIN MORTGAGE (TRUST FUNDS) In September, 1928, the Board of Trustees acquired several mortgages of land in Franklin C o u n t y as investments of e n d o w m e n t funds. O n e of these mortgages, amounting to $7,500, covering 280 acres of land
