BOARD OF TRUSTEES CONTRACT FOR CATTLE FEEDING PLANT A N D A G R O N O M Y SEED HOUSE

(24) The Supervising Architect reports that on July 18, 1930, bids were received on the general contract and equipment for the addition to the Cattle Feeding Plant, with Mrs. Laura B. Evans of the Board present at the opening of these bids. The low bidder on the general contract was the Keystone Construction C o m p a n y of Kansas City with a bid of $43,750; the low bidder on the equipment was the Webster Manufacturing Company of Bloomington, Illinois, with a bid of $20,976. These bids exceed the available balance ($54,606.30) in the appropriation of $115,000 made by the last General Assembly for additions to the Cattle Feeding Plant and the Agronomy Seed House. The general contract bid includes rebuilding two of the present silos, estimated by the contractor to cost $4,780, which m a y be charged against the Physical Plant appropriations for maintenance. One of the items in the equipment schedule, a grain dryer estimated to cost $3,343, m a y be purchased out of the special equipment fund of the College of Agriculture. The electric wiring, estimated to cost $1,270, can be done by the Physical Plant Division after the completion of the general contract. The bid also provides for a credit of $245 on roofing. B y taking this credit and eliminating the cost of the rebuilding of the two silos, the electric wiring, and the grain dryer from the bids the net contract price can be reduced to $53,866, which is within the balance available for this work. The Supervising Architect recommends that this plan be followed and that the contract for the general work be awarded to the Keystone Construction Company of Kansas City, low bidder, on their base bid of $43,750, with the deductions indicated; and that the equipment contract be awarded to the Webster Manufacturing Company of Bloomington, Illinois, on the basis of their bid of $20,976. I recommend approval. O n m o t i o n of M r . ROYALTIES ON PHOSPHORUS TEST SOLUTION (25) On December 12, 1929 (Minutes, page 464), the Board voted to enter into an agreement with the Urbana Laboratories giving them the exclusive right to manufacture and sell a solution known as the "Field Test for Available Phosphorus in Soils," under the trade name of "Hi-Lo-Fosfate." The University has applied for a patent on this solution. Under the terms of this contract a royalty of ten cents a quart is to be paid the University on all sales of this product by this Company. At the meeting of the Board on February 5, 1930 (Minutes, page 512), a report was made of the receipt of $10.94 m royalties up to December 31, 1929. The Comptroller now reports the receipt of $42.05 in royalties for the first quarter and $32.39 for the second quarter of 1930, making a total of $85.38 received to June 30, 1930. (26) The following report of gifts received and accepted since the last report was made to the Board: 1. From the Standard Brands Incorporated of N e w York a renewal of the $3,5°° grant made by the Fleischmann Yeast Company in 1929, known as the Fleischmann Research Fund, (Minutes, April 10, 1929, page 161) for research work on the effect of yeast on the digestive tract. One-half payment of $1,750 for this fund for 1930-31 has been received and deposited with the Comptroller. 2. From M r . Robert F. Carr, the sum of $900 for research work on allergy (asthma, hay fever, etc.) in the College of Medicine, this being the second payment on his gift of $1,800 for this work.
