That the contract for a 36* extension of a drain from the Wright Street sewer, west along Armory, reduced to a 30* drain at Sixth Street, and extended south to Gregory Drive—this tile to be of reinforced concrete—be awarded to Kent & Company on the basis of their low bid of $4490. The total of these contracts will amount to $7,475.95. Funds for this work are available in the Physical Plant Extension Appropriation. I recommend award of these contracts as indicated in each case. O n motion of M r . Simpson, the contract for the sanitary sewer w a s awarded to M r . Linderman, o n the basis of his bid of $537.95, as r e c o m m e n d e d . O n motion of M r s . Grigsby, the contract for storm drains for the W o m a n ' s G y m n a s i u m w a s awarded to K e n t & Co., the lowest bidder, as r e c o m m e n d e d . O n motion of M r . Trees, the contract for storm drains connecting with the Wright Street system w a s awarded to K e n t & Co., the lowest bidder, as r e c o m m e n d e d .

CHARGES AGAINST ILLINOIS UNION FOR STEAM AND ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS

(21) Certain changes have been made for the Illinois Union in the steam returns and electrical conduits between the Campus and the Union Building at a total cost of $1,678.02. The Board of Directors of the Illinois Union request permission to reimburse the University for this work on a deferred-payment plan to begin September 1, 1931, and to be spread over a period of four years, payments to be made monthly, and to be prorated to the heat, light, and power bills submitted by the University for these services. The Supervising Architect and the Comptroller recommend approval, and I concur. O n motion of D r . Noble, this recommendation w a s approved.

PAYMENT OF PATENT ATTORNEY FEES

(22) The Supervising Architect submits statements from Brown, Jackson, Boettcher, & Dienner, patent attorneys for fees and services in connection with certain patent cases as follows: Dana Burks, Jr., Case 1—Chemical Treatment of Water $309 00 Dana Burks, Jr., Case 2—Means and Method of Freezing a Clear Block of Ice _ 185 10 Paine, Brown, and Tykociner—Cable Testing Invention 50 00 Total $695 31 Buswell & Boruff, Case 1—Cellulose Digestion 15 00 These statements are submitted to the Board for approval. Provision has been Disbursements 4 11 made in the budget for 1930-31 for the payment of such expenses. Babbitt & Schlenz, Case 1—Sludge Digestion 32 00 O n motion of M r . Fisher, this p a y m e n t w a s authorized.

PURCHASE OF SHELVING MATERIAL FOR LIBRARY

(23) The Supervising Architect requests authority to place an order with the Paltridge Metal Equipment Company for bases and shelving, to be used in connection with some old shelving material left over when the Library was moved to the newbuilding, for the construction of newspaper shelving in the south basement of the Library Building, at a price of $4,943.80, f.o.b. trucks at the building. The cost of this material will be charged to the Physical Plant Extension Appropriation. I recommend that this purchase be authorized. O n motion of D r . Noble, this purchase w a s authorized.
