140 board of trustees [January 9 3. Pyrex laboratory glassware for the General Chemical Stores from the Central Scientific Company at $2,080.79. This purchase was made on the basis of quotations secured by the Purchasing Agent from various firms, the Central Scientific Company being the low bidder. Funds for this equipment are provided in the budgets of the various departments that will use it. 4. Ice-making equipment for the experimental ice plant, to be used in connection with the investigation of water treatment for ice manufacture, from the Vilter Manufacturing Company, low bidder, at a cost of $3,000; the expense to be charged to the special fund provided by the Utilities Research Commission for this investigation. 5. Breeching for new stack at Boiler House, to be fabricated according to specifications submitted by the Supervising Architect, from the Mississippi Valley Structural Steel Company of Decatur at a price of $1,127. 6. Wrought iron pipe and cast iron water mains for the newfiltrationplant from Field and Shorb Company, Decatur, the low bidders on this equipment, at a total cost of $4,490, f.o.b. Urbana. This report w a s received for record. GIFTS TO THE UNIVERSITY (15) A report of the following gifts received by the University since the last report was made to the Board: 1. From the Certified Milk Producers Association the sum of $ 1,200 and from the Brook Hill Farm of Genesee Depot, Wisconsin, the sum of $300, for the study of the toxins of the streptococcus epidemicus which was authorized by the Board of Trustees on December 4, 1929 (Minutes, page 451). 2. From E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Company a $75o-fellowship in Chemistry for the academic year 1931 -32. This is a renewal of the fellowship which this Company has been providing for several years. 3. From the International Harvester Company a replica of the McCormick Reaper of 1831 to be used as a museum piece. 4. From Doctor R. M . Curtiss of Marengo a Zeiss microscope, some medical books, some laboratory apparatus, and a collection of pathological slides for the use of the College of Medicine. GIFTS OF ILLINOIS GAS ASSOCIATION (16) The Illinois Gas Association has assigned twelve hundred dollars to the University to be applied toward the salaries of two research graduate assistants in the Engineering Experiment Station. This represents the repetition of a gift inaugurated in 1916-1917.
