THE MATHEMATICAL GROUP IOI work in applied mathematics are offered, namely, in physics and astronomy. Either of these may be taken by the student wishing to graduate from this group. The one leads through the physics of the sophomore year to the mathematical theory of electricity and magnetism, heat, light, and sound; the other through surveying to celestial mechanics and general and mathematical astronomy. In addition to these, a course in astronomy and physics is offered, including the mathematics through the junior year, but leading to theoretical astronomy and advanced physics in the senior year.
