234 BOARD OF TRUSTEES This report was received for record. [May 16 APPOINTMENT OF PROFESSOR APPLETON (20) On recommendation of Dean Babcock, I recommend that Mr. John Bargate Appleton be appointed Assistant Professor of Geology for two years from September l, 1915, at an annual salary of $2500. O n motion of M r . Trees, this appointment w a s made. RESEARCH INVESTIGATION ON PLUMBING (21) The Illinois Master Plumbers Association offers J1800 for the purchase of equipment and for the payment of assistants in carrying on researches on plumbing. On request of Dean Ketchum I recommend that a cooperative agreement between the University and the Illinois Master Plumbers Association be approved, and that the contract be entered into. O n motion of M r . Barr, this contract w a s authorized. APPOINTMENT OF DR. OLIVE C. HAZLETT (22) On request of Dean Babcock, I recommend that Dr. Olive C. Hazlett be appointed Assistant Professor of Mathematics for two years from September 1, 1925, at a salary of J3000. O n motion of M r . Barr, this appointment w a s made. RESIGNATION OF DOCTOR DEAN D. LEWIS (23) Doctor Dean D. Lewis has submitted his resignation as Professor of Surgery and Director of Research in the Department of Surgery to be effective when acted upon. Doctor Lewis has accepted a similar position at Johns Hopkins University. I recommend that his resignation be accepted effective at a date to be agreed on between Dr. Lewis and the President of the University. O n motion of M r . Trees, this recommendation w a s adopted. APPOINTMENT OF MISS E. EVELYN SMITH (24) On request of Professor Ruth Wardall and Dean H. W . Mumford, I recommend that Miss E. Evelyn Smith be appointed Associate in Home Economics for one year from September I, 1925, at a salary of $2800. O n motion of M r s . Grigsby, this appointment w a s made. LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR DR. ROY L. MOODIE (25) Acting Dean Davis recommends that Dr. Roy L. Moodie, Professor of Anatomy, be granted leave of absence with pay from June 1 to September 1 in order to pursue his researches in California during the summer. I concur in this recommendation.
