Award of Certified Public Accountant Certificates

(3) T h e Committee on Accountancy recommends that the certificate of certified public accountant be awarded to 949 candidates who passed the written examination on November 7, 8, and 9, 1990, in Illinois and who have fulfilled all other legal requirements under Sections 1, 2, and 3 of the Illinois Public Accounting Act of 1983. T h e names of the candidates are filed with the secretary. T h e Committee on Accountancy recommends that the certificate of certified public accountant be awarded under Section 5 of the Illinois Public Accounting Act of 1983 to 19 candidates who have presented evidence that they are holders of valid and unrevoked certified public accountant certificates obtained by passing the uniform written examination in another state or territory of the United States and who qualify in all other respects under this provision of the law. T h e names of the candidates are filed with the secretary. I concur in these recommendations.

On motion of Ms. Reese, these certificates were awarded. (Governor Edgar asked to be recorded as not voting on this item.)

Appointments to the Institute for the Humanities, Chicago

(4) T h e interim chancellor at Chicago, on recommendation of the director of the Institute for the Humanities and with the concurrence of the dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has recommended the following appointments of fellows in the Institute for the Humanities for the academic year 1991-92 and for the program of research or study as indicated in each area.

HENDERSON, associate professor of black studies and of English — "In Another Country: Afro-American Novelists in France" LAWRENCE H. KEELEY, associate professor of anthropology—"Warfare and Prehistory" JAMES A. SCHULTZ, associate professor of German—"Children and Childhood in German Texts of the Middle Ages, 1100-1350" T h e vice president for academic affairs concurs. I recommend approval.

Appointments to the Faculty

(5) T h e following new appointments to the faculty of the rank of assistant professor and above, and certain administrative positions, have been approved since the previous meeting of the Board of Trustees. Positions in the University are classified in the following categories and are designated in the budget by the symbols indicated.

1 Fellows in the Institute are selected from nominees by the Executive Committee of the Institute for the Humanities. Fellowships are awarded for independent work in all fields of the social and natural sciences, the humanities, and the creative arts, as long as the work is related to the humanities. Those eligible for nomination are full-time faculty members at the Chicago campus.
