T h e salaries recommended for summer session appointments are computed on the basis of the standard formula: two-ninths of the salary of the academic year for the full period of the session (eight weeks) with proportionate amounts for shorter periods or for part-time service. T h e vice president for academic affairs and the vice president for business and finance concur in the recommendation. Accordingly, I recommend that the appointments to the staff for the summer sessions be approved as submitted; and that the president of the University be authorized to accept resignations, to approve additional appointments, and to make such other changes as are necessary to meet the needs of the 1991 summer sessions within the total allocation of funds indicated. O n motion of Mr. Boyle, these appointments and t h e s u m m e r session b u d g e t s for Chicago and U r b a n a - C h a m p a i g n for 1991 were approved a n d authority was given as requested. T h i s action was taken by t h e following vote: Aye, Dr. Bacon, Mr. Boyle, Mrs. Calder, Mr. Grabowski, Mrs. G r a v e n h o r s t , Mr. L a m o n t , Ms. Reese, Mrs. S h e p h e r d , Mr. Wolff; no, n o n e ; absent, n o n e .
