1897.] PROCEEDINGS OF BOARD OF TRUSTEES. 221 On motion of Mr. Bullard, $60.00 was appropriated for the purchase of slides for use with the classes in astronomy. LOSSES BY LIGHTNING. The following resolution offered by Mr. Bullard was referred to the Finance Committee, to be reported upon at the March meeting of the Board: WHEREAS, The losses of the University by tire arising from lightning have lately been so serious that it becomes necessary for this Board to take measures for protection against fire from this source, therefore Resolved, That the sum of $1,000, or so much thereof as may be needed, be appropriated for protecting the buildingsof the University from damage by lightning, and that the Committee on Buildings and Grounds take charge of the work hereby ordered. Mr. Raymond stated that Mr. Hedges, tenant on the south farm, desired to have the time for the next payment of rent extended to April 1, 1898, on his paying interest at the rate of 6 per cent. The matter was referred to Mr. Raymond with power to act. One hundred and twenty-five dollars, or so much thereof as might be needed, was appropriated for repairing the tiling on the south farm, the money to be expended under the direction of the Business Manager. T The resolution with regard to the blue-print room was then taken up and adopted, and $150.00 was assigned as capital for use in the operation of the room. On motion of Mr. Bullard, $54.00 additional was appropriated for the construction of the bridge on Burrill avenue, this appropriation having been made necessary because of extra labor on account of quicksand found in laying the foundation. Mr. Bullard stated that $526.92 more was needed in the construction of the greenhouse, and this sum was appropriated for this purpose. The bill of P. E. Taintor, amounting to $63.00, for cement work on the driveway through Machinery Building, was allowed and ordered paid. The Board adjourned. W. L. PILLSEURY, F. M. MCKAY, Secretary. President.
